My essay/speech on the topic: Think Before You Eat and Help Save The Environment

We waste a lot of food everyday. Most people waste food thinking, “It’s just a little, it won’t make a difference..” But what we don’t realize is- it does, and a large difference too. The down side: food waste is a massive global problem that has negative environmental affects. But the good part- with some hard work and thinking- we can help stop food wastage.
One in every seven people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of five die from hunger every day. Both our governments and NGOs have been working on reversing this situation.One-third of all unused food in developed countries is wasted by households. Many campaigns have been launced, trying to help solve the problem of food wastage. The Think.Eat.Save campaign of the Save Food Initiative, is a partnership between UNEP, FAO and Messe Düsseldorf, and in support of the UN Secretary-General’s Zero Hunger Challenge, which seeks to add its authority and voice to these efforts. This is an excellent way to start our steps to reducing this problem. This campaign helps us to reduce our “foodprint”.
There are many ways we can reduce our foodprint as individuals too. Listed below are some steps:
•  Shop Smart:Plan meals, use shopping lists and avoid unnecessary buys. Don’t fall for marketing tricks that lead you to buy more food than you need, particularly for perishable items which could lead to more wastage.
•  Compost: Composting food scraps can reduce climate impact while also recycling nutrients.
•  Use Your Freezer:Frozen foods remain safe indefinitely. Freeze fresh produce and leftovers if you won’t have the chance to eat them before they go bad. You can also do this with take-away or delivered food, if you know you will not feel like eating it the next day.
•  Donate:Non-perishable and unspoiled perishable food can be donated to local food banks, soup kitchens, pantries and shelters. Local and national programs frequently offer free pick-up and provide reusable containers to donors.

The amount of food we throw away is a waste of resources. Just think about all the energy, water and packaging used in food production, transportation and storage. This all goes to waste when we throw away perfectly good food. So hop along and try reducing your foodprint and help save our environment!

Hope you guys liked it. Please don't copy off it, but you can use some information. Until next time guys!

In a Substitution Class

My mind wanders as I'm
Sitting in a substitution class,
To birds on a trees, calming rivers
And tiny insects in grass.

To little kids playing on streets,
Cars on busy roads,
Lily flowers in the river
And the occasional toad.

Then I look around,
What a sight I saw,
My classmates dozing and bored
And most trying to hold back a yawn.

The teacher screams out my name,
I come out of my daydream
And then the teacher asks me,
"Were you dreaming of ice cream?"

Its more of a funny poem. Not my best work. I wrote this on 3rd July this year, in a substitution class. Our teacher gave us free time, we were lucky. Bye for now!

Dreams...

Hey guys!

Well, recently I have been researching on a topic most of us don't think much about: Dreams! I had a weird dream one day and felt like looking in on the subject.I wanted to shares some of my research. There are many types of dreams. Listed below are some:

Daydreams: Daydreaming is classified as a level of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. Studies show that you have the tendency to daydream an average of 70-120 minutes a day. It occurs during waking hours when you let your imagination carry you away. As your mind begins to wander and your level of awareness decreases, you lose yourself in your imagined scenario and fantasy.

Lucid Dreams: Lucid dreams occur when you realize you are dreaming. "Wait a second. This is only a dream!" Most dreamers wake themselves up once they realize that they are dreaming. Other dreamers have cultivated the skill to remain in the lucid state of dreaming. They become an active participant in their own dreams, making decisions in their dreams and influencing the dream's outcome without awakening.

Nightmares:A nightmare is a disturbing dream that causes you to wake up feeling anxious and frightened. Nightmares may be a response to real life trauma and situations. These type of nightmares fall under a special category called Post-traumatic Stress Nightmare (PSN). Nightmares may also occur because you have ignored or refused to accept a particular life situation. Research shows that most people who have regular nightmares have a family history of psychiatric problems, are involved in a rocky relationship or have had bad drug experiences. These people may have also contemplated suicide. Nightmares are an indication of a fear that needs to be acknowledged and confronted. It is a way for the subconscious to wake up and take notice.

Recurring Dreams:Recurring dreams repeat themselves with little variation in story or theme. These dreams may be positive, but most often they are nightmarish in content. Dreams may recur because a conflict depicted in the dream remains unresolved or ignored. Once you find a resolution to the problem, your recurring dreams will cease.

Healing Dreams:Healing dreams serve as messages for the dreamer in regards to their health. The Ancient Greeks called these dreams "prodromic". Many dream experts believe that dreams can help in avoiding potential health problems and healing when you are ill or when you are grieving. Research shows that asthma and migraine sufferers have certain types of dreams before an attack. Your bodies are able to communicate to your mind through dreams. The dreams can "tell" you that something is not quite right with your bodies even before any physical symptoms show up. Dreams of this nature may be telling the dreamer that he or she needs to go to the dentist or doctor. If you can understand the language of dreams, your dreams will serve as an invaluable early warning system. They can help inform, advise and heal.

Prophetic Dreams:Prophetic dreams, also referred to as precognitive or psychic dreams, are dreams that seemingly foretell the future. One rational theory to explain this phenomenon is that your dreaming mind is able to piece together bits of information and observation that you may normally overlook or that you do not seriously consider. In other words, your unconscious mind knows what is coming before you consciously piece together the same information.

Signal Dreams:Signal dreams help you how to solve problems or make decisions in your waking life.

Epic Dreams:Epic dreams (also referred to as Great Dreams, Cosmic Dreams or Numinous Dreams) are so huge, so compelling, and so vivid that you cannot ignore them. The details of such dreams remain with you for years, as if you just dreamt it last night. These dreams possess much beauty and contain many archetypal symbology. When you wake up from such a dream, you feel that you have discovered something profound or amazing about yourself or about the world. It feels like a life-changing experience.

Progressive Dreams:Progressive dreams occur when you have a sequence of dreams that continue over a period of nights. The dream continues where you left off the previous night. Such dreams are problem-solving dreams and help to explore different options and various approaches to a problem, situation or relationship.

Mutual Dreams:Mutual dreams are described as such when two people have the same dream. Mutual dreams may be planned, meaning that two people actively work toward achieving one dream scenario or goal. It is a way to improve communication and build trust. Mutual dreams can also be spontaneous. You find out that a friend, a significant other, faraway relative, or someone has had the same dream on the same night as you. Not much study has gone into the phenomenon of mutual dreams, but there is a very strong bond that exist between these two people.
See you guys later!

Raindrops, my first poem..

Hey guys!
I wanted to start off with a poem that gave me the feeling that I could actually be a writer or a blogger. Here it goes:

Pitter, patter, the raindrops splatter
On the hard, hard floor
Once they talked and told me a matter
I never bothered to think of before.

Save us, use us wisely, they said
Later those words were stuck in my head.
Now I'm trying to do my part
Helping the world with all my heart.

Hope you guys liked it! Its really close to me...I wrote this when I was in 6th grade, 2 yrs ago. Well that's all for now, see you guys soon!

For now, I have nothing to post, but a poem is in process, it will probably be on next week. For all those readers out there who have known this blog from the start and helped make it a blog with over 1,000 reads..thank you. Thank you for being patient with my abnormal posting times. Thank you for asking me to update. Thank you for whatever you have done, even though it may just be reading a page. And of course, you can't spell success with the "u". It would just be sccess, and that would be...sad.  And also, the blog used to be Chickku, is now named, The Place, as its my dream to be the place to share thoughts and ideas. My pen name is going to be  Izzy from now on, by the way. See you next week, Peace out!

Movie review time!

Hey guys! Movie review time- Spotlight on Harry Potter movies!
Harry Potter movies started coming out in 2001, and all 7 books were filmed as 8 movies ( book 7 as part 1 and 2). All of them star the trio, i.e Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, their friends and life at Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Most of the movies are about how these three friends conquer the dark  and evil lord Voldemort. All the films were based on the books. I think the books and the movies are really good! A good read for people my age and adults too. So if you haven't read it yet - I suggest you do!
